The Legends of Flight

The Legends of Flight is basically the first flight themed film to be done in 3d from the Stephen Low Company in association with the Smithsonian National Air and the Space Museum is coming to a theater or science museum that is near you. In an effort to inspire children in becoming more interested and inclined in the field of science and engineering, Legends makes uses film and animation to tell the story of aircraft design over the history of flight. There are several key aircrafts that are featured and these include: The Boeing Model 75 Stearman, Schleicher Glider, Harrier Jump Jet, Super Constellation and the Airbus A380. It was filmed against the backdrop of great visual effects that define the IMAX genre; basically the whole journey culminates with the coverage of the maiden flight of the Boeing 787 dreamliner.

All throughout the film, the 787’s chief test pilot which is Captain Mike Carriker serves as a pilot, narrator and flight instructor as well. He traces the genesis and birth of the Dreamliner and also provides simple technical explanations of the principles of flight with animated visuals aimed to inspire young people to consider careers in science and engineering. A the film’s producers hope that as many kids as possible will be able to see the film as it tours the country.


This is probably the first ever 3d flight film made for v theaters. In production for more than four years, Legends of Flight will premiere June 8, 2010, at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museumin Washington, D.C., followed by screenings in Chicago and Seattle, with other cities through the rest of June.
